Course Exam – Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPPA)

FOIPPA is the privacy and access legislation that governs all public bodies in British Columbia. There are four domains of information management: Records management, access, privacy, and security. As a teacher in B.C., these are all very important sectors in working with children and teenagers. Privacy is very important unless it’s information that you witness or have been told that dangers a child’s safety and protection (these incidences must be reported to the Child Health Services). Children are vulnerable to outside attacks both physically and mentally, so it is our job as educators to protect them to the best of our ability while they are in our care. This includes all areas included in FOIPPA including records, access, privacy, and security of private information. I believe this is very important as an educator and this course is necessary so that I am aware of what is out there to watch for.
