Volunteer Parent

I was a very common volunteer at the elementary school while my sons were attending. I started when my oldest son was in kindergarten by doing lunch time supervision. I would bring my then youngest son along with me and he would play while I did my supervision shift. I did that for a year and then moved on to volunteering within the school for various things.
I was often a parent volunteer for hot lunch on Friday’s where we would either cook and deliver hot dogs, juice boxes, and chips to the classrooms or sort food coming in from restaurants and deliver it to classrooms. It depended on the hot lunch for that week. Dallas Elementary generally would run hot lunches for parents to order online every week. I loved doing this job! It was fun to see the kids in their element and they were always so excited when we brought their orders to their classrooms.
I was a volunteer parent on many occasions in the classroom to help with permission slips and money collection for field trips as well as helping with Scholastic book order submissions. This was also a fun part of my volunteering and I loved going into my kids classrooms to help. I was on many field trips with the classes including McQueen Lake, Isobel Lake, Pete McMurray’s Pumpkin Patch, and tying endless amounts of ice skates at the Valleyview Arena. These excursions were always a blast except for the motion sickness on the buses….for me!
Finally, I was a volunteer parent to organize, supervise, set-up, and clean-up for the grade 7 graduation ceremony for the past two years as my sons proceeded into high school in Valleyview Secondary. This was a massive undertaking in both years trying to get all of the parents on board with ideas, finalizing lists, and making the plan come to life. As we all know, getting multiple people to agree on anything can be a challenge but we managed to get it done and it happened on time for both years! Phew. I loved every minute of it honestly.
