CYCA 2500 – Child Youth & Community Assistant With Sheryl-Lynn Lewis

My sons at the McGowan water park when they were quite little.

This course was about human development from conception to adult with a deep look into what happens throughout those years from the domains of social, emotional, physical, and cognitive growth. There was also an emphasis on research, cultural impacts, and the influence of major theorists. As a mother, I thought that I was pretty well versed on human development as I have witnessed it firsthand in my home. It was interesting to delve closer into how teenagers think and why they do the dangerous things that they tend to do into young adulthood. It really put into perspective how kids think and react to things but also why some children act the way that they do. Again, we learned that behaviour is often a means of communication and not an intended outcome. There are many other factors involved including culture, religion, disability, and most of all, home life.
